A beach house is a functional space on the beach, it is never an end and self-sufficient place in itself, many times it is a measured space, where you only need to be able to carry out essential and vital activities but always in support of the beach. At the same time it is a place that must guarantee a particular serenity, that of a holiday and there cannot be a disconnect between relaxing
on the shoreline and relaxing on the sofa; the two spaces are a continuous story without twists, without unexpected events, except for one, but this depends precisely on the case addressed in this work, if from the house, due to the organization of the complex, the sea cannot be seen… well! We need to bring it inside.
The work presented is on the one hand the reconnection of the internal domestic space with the external environmental context, sea_house and vice versa as a continuum; on the other hand, the theme is the one of privacy in a house of only 50 m², where four people must live together, guaranteeing them a minimum of privacy under equal conditions and environmental comfort. The living area is prepared in a single room with a small kitchen, a breakfast table, a table and a sofa for a little relaxation. The living area and the sleeping area are connected by a door; in the sleeping area there was the need to create two bedrooms in a space as large as the living area, and here part of the history of our own Sicily came to our aid: we have redesigned a “mashrabiya” in a contemporary key, that is an Arabic filter system which, by screening an environment, allows the passage of light and air, eliminating that claustrophobic feeling that a small environment full of partition walls could cause.
The experiment seems to have been a success: in a small environment, which is itself divided, the architectural element separates and at the same time makes the space unique, as if a sculpture had been lowered into the small enclosure, creating functional and pleasant spaces at the same time. A further effort was also to maintain two bathrooms and find space for a walk-in closet; the result was precisely that of almost amplifying the perceived space, and the confirmation is precisely the gratitude of the client who comments through a social communication with “We had a great time, we spent a beautiful summer in a wonderful house”… be available to the wishes of others.
