“The bond with the deceased is deeply felt in our areas and our Administration has decided with deep conviction this important investment to redevelop the Cemetery, a place very dear to all of us”. This was the comment of the mayor of Meda, Luca Santambrogio, at the launch a few months ago of the redevelopment works of the cemetery of Meda, in the province of Monza Brianza. A few months later, the redevelopment is almost complete: all the works started in 2022 will be completed by September.
The project, wanted by the Municipal Administration and under the works management of the Arch. Sergio Bianchi of Studio ASB in Carate Brianza, saw IPM Italia – company of Sulbiate, in Monza Brianza, one of the major national players in the formulation, production and installation of continuous resin floors for indoors and natural grit for exteriors in the industrial, commercial and residential sectors – as team leader of the entire construction site: redevelopment and excavation of old floors, renovation of plumbing and electrical systems, renovation of new lighting systems and general redevelopment of the greenery.

IPM GeoCem – draining cement screed
“The cornerstone of the project was the reconstruction of all internal roads: the old floors were not uniform and were in a general state of decay, characterized by potholes and depressions that creates uncomfortable situations for people, given the formation of significant flooding during stormy phenomena.
We started from a detailed HD photographic survey of the entire area to understand the actual state and proceed with a concrete feasibility assessment”, says Andrea Penati, CEO and Technical Director of IPM Italia.
After the mapping, the works began with the preventive removal of approximately 50 centimeters of subgrade and the complete reconstruction of the underground services, positioned at the edge of driveways for greater stability of the pavement and to make maintenance more practical and efficient.
The choices for Meda: drainage, technique and aesthetics with IPM GeoCem and IPM GeoDrena®
After repositioning gravel to give stability to the bottom, the subsequent restoration was carried out with the IPM GeoCem draining concrete flooring, cement-based screed.
IPM GeoCem is the draining concrete for pedestrian and vehicular paving. The high draining capacity is guaranteed by a careful selection of the aggregates and the cement binder used in the mixture. High performance, resistance, anti-slip properties, durability over time and sound absorption are the characteristics that make it ideal for creating paths in sports facilities, park avenues, roads, subject to environmental protection, respecting the needs of the territory and the architectural context. It can provide the dispersion of rainfall over the entire affected surface, leading to its direct reintroduction int the natura cycle and is the perfect substrate for IPM GeoDrena®.
The IPM GeoDrena® coating system, specific for continuous outdoor flooring, in a thickness of 1.5/2 cm, was laid on the layer ranging from 18 to 23 centimeters of IPM GeoCem. IPM GeoDrena® was born from the internal laboratory of IPM Italia, which as always been involved in Research and Development of continuous flooring system: it offers a very high draining capacity (2.700 it/sq m/minute), stability and fast installation. The porous structure allows water to drain quickly, eliminating runoff and stagnation phenomena.
Thanks to the variable thickness, it is a covering also suitable for driveway areas, certified for medium-heavy loads.
The system can be laid on existing surfaces, even worn ones, and on new surfaces such as concrete, draining concrete, natural stones and on suitably compacted and rolled soil. The use of the eco-friendly binder formulated by IPM Italia and quality materials, such as marble, granite and porphyry, makes IPM GeoDrena® perfectly responsive to the aesthetic needs of architectural projects and sustainable.
Free of epoxy or polyurethane resin, IPM GeoDrena® has obtained the approval of the Superintendence of Environmental, Architectural and Archeological Heritage and other recognized bodies.
This intervention, in line with what is pursued by the Municipality in the context of La Brianza Cambia Clima Climate Transition Strategy, ensure the natural cycle of rainwater is respected with benefits for the environment and the climate, helping avoid flooding, recharging the aquifer, reducing heat compared to asphalt paving.
“A coating like IPM GeoDrena®, in addition to guaranteeing technical performance, counteracts the heat generated when temperatures rise inexorably. Furthermore, the mix of aggregates used, millefiori, white quartz, Carnic gray and orange porphyry made it possible to create the decorative inserts envisaged but the architectural project directly inside the covering, ensuring visual signaling of crossroads and intersections. The possibility of varying he thickness also allows it to be driven on, a choice we made in the areas and driveways where the passage of cars is expected”, says Penati.
IPM Italia has proposed itself as a single interlocutor parent company, guaranteeing over 40 years of experience, production and application capacity. The works were carried out in small areas (lots), without closing the cemetery which has always remained accessible, and will end in September 2023.
