Among Verona’s ecclesiastical buildings, the Church of Santa Lucia is one of the oldest: historical documents trace its presence as early as the year 973 AD, although its current conformation is the result of the latest reconstruction, completed in 1900. Characterized by a single rectangular hall, with a quadrangular presbytery ending in a semicircular apse, the Church of Santa Lucia has an architectural layout rich in details, decorations, frescoes and paintings, many of which are the work of the painter Agostino Pegrassi, author of the Annunciation visible on the triumphal arch of the presbytery and the Visitation of the apse basin. Centuries of history and art, therefore, make it one of the most important and symbolic churches in the city of Verona, as well as a building of historical, architectural and artistic value.
To restore new light to the works of art and the overall architecture, in 2023 Pastor Don Franco Dal Dosso deemed it necessary to upgrade the electrical, management and lighting system, contracting the consultancy to Telmotor – industrial player offering highly specialized solutions for the lighting, industrial automation and energy sectors and provider of integrated consultancy for the industrial, infrastructure and tertiary sectors, which implemented an integrated solution. In addition to improving the enjoyment of spaces and celebrations, the main objective of the project was to reduce energy consumption: in fact, the overall system was inadequate, both in terms of space enhancement and, above all, in terms of energy.
“Efficient lighting is a fundamental tool for saving energy-a principle valid in any lighting environment, public or private. Telmotor’s Energy&Lighting Solutions division had as a guideline for the Santa Lucia Church project the realization of an integrated turnkey solution, to be developed along two lines: on the one hand, to give new light to the interiors with the possibility of managing different scenarios, enhancing spaces, works and environments in a wise balance between artificial and natural light; on the other hand, to ensure the fruition of spaces while containing operating costs and aiming at significant energy savings,” says Alessandro Vaglietti, Energy&Lighting Solutions manager at Telmotor.
From the proposal to the implementation, Telmotor has been a single interlocutor, starting from the design consultancy required for the implementation of the plant according to current legal standards, developed in collaboration with the partner LBR Studio – p.i. Luca Brusciano, to the executive and construction site details, which the in-house technical offices carried out by supporting the plant engineer AL Impianti, involved by Telmotor in the implementation phase of the work.
The installed products gave uniformity of illumination of the vault, ensuring greater color rendition of light without neglecting the aesthetic aspect and non-damaging light flow for works of historical-artistic interest, enhancing the frescoes and exhibits with light points.
To provide general lighting that would allow the faithful to follow the liturgy from the stalls, the lighting was doubled with the use of high-efficiency, color rendering > 98 LED floodlights, which provide high energy savings and top-notch color rendering, resulting in reduced operating and maintenance costs.
Management of the lighting fixtures was accomplished with the use of KNX home automation equipment, which through an appropriate supervisory system allows for intelligent control of the systems and remote control of lighting options that enable the use of the spaces, all to the benefit of energy efficiency.
Along with the new facility management, Telmotor also took care of the electrical switchboard refurbishment.
