We found ourselves thinking and planning the last appointment of the series in conjunction with the need to isolate ourselves at home due to the health crisis, starting a long period of forced domesticity.
The topic of living, previously reflecting on the issue of obstacles, seemed to us to be fitting and immediately adaptable to what we were experiencing. In light of the fact that everyone found themselves living the spaces of the house more intensely than usual, we considered it appropriate to ask the public to interact during the design phase, thus reversing the interaction times used up to that moment.
We thought it was interesting, as a basis for our research, to take the domestic obstacles sent by the participants of the call, letting ourselves be inspired by their many examples that would surely be detached from those of our personal experience, enriching it considerably. This inclusion in the design part, which we generally would have conducted while remaining within the collective, also wanted to counteract the feeling of intellectual isolation that can arise in this particular situation. The call was therefore structured as a request for a video that showed a design error that prevented or made it difficult to carry out an action in one’s home.
Numerous shelves that are difficult to reach, doors blocked in their opening, cramped spaces, undersized services, poorly connected systems, problematic passages to go through, are some of the examples received and which have helped to kickstart our reflection on the obstacle in the domestic space.
The opportunity to think about the home theme, which is very dear to us, led us to the conclusion of this trilogy about the obstacle.
