It is objectively utopian to hypothesize, today, a definitive solution able to defeat the problems connected with pollution, an “anti-smog” diet that closes the game and resolves the issue.
It would be great, we would have a pure air to breathe everywhere, seas without plastic and postcard landscapes. But if Panacea does not exist yet, what is certain is that we can all contribute to improving the situation in everyday life.
A public body can do this by implementing appropriate environmental strategies in a wide range.
A company can do this by supporting and promoting green policies or by activating sustainable production processes.
The individual can do it by adopting small to large virtuous behaviors. And new technologies, more and more often, prove to be useful allies.
theBreath®, more than a single fabric. A reliable ally against pollution.
Here an example. Made by Anemotech, an all – Italian company that designs solutions aimed at improving the quality of the environment which we live in, theBreath® is an innovative textile material eco-friendly.
Its texture is in fact formed by two outer layers made of printable and breathable material (which therefore allow the entry and exit of air) and an intermediate carbon fiber core, capable of “capturing” and breaking down the harmful volatile substances.
All taking advantages from the natural flow of the air which (precisely because it is natural) does not require any external energy source to be activated and powered. Zero emissions, for a 100% sustainable process.
Said in this way it seems almost simple but at the basis of the patent there is a challenging phase of study and design.
The initial idea came from Gianmarco Cammi (current chief operating manager of Anemotech) who then involved a team of researchers from the Polytechnic University of Marche in a long and focused Research & Development project.
In this way theBreath® was born, which actually looks like a simple fabric but is instead a truly revolutionary fiber able to purifying the surrounding atmosphere.
Outdoors as much as indoors, because – remember it – smog is not just out there on the ring road but, unfortunately for us, it is found (and in abundance) even in offices, homes, schools, commercial spaces and so on.
Just think that in every room where there are toner photocopiers, air conditioners or heating systems, volatile organic compound substances are released which then, more or less unconsciously, we are going to breathe and take in.
From the streets in Rome, to the car parks of Monte-Carlo…
Let’s start with the outdoors. In outdoors environments theBreath® is increasingly used to make maxi-billboards.
Recently, just to mention an example, a giant advertising panel (we are talking about 455 square meters) is raised for a few days in a very central place in Rome, going to cover a building under renovation. And the slogan stated: “Take your children to breathe. Here below“.

theBreath installation with the slogan “Bring your children to breathe. Below.”
Does it seem provocative? Not that much since real tests already carried out in other cities have shown that a 10 sqm panel in theBreath® affixed in the streets is able to absorb approximately in one year the emissions caused by the passage of 1450 diesel cars, from 3635 petrol cars or issued by 15 boilers.
Nice (and cool) to say: even the Principality of Monaco was conquered by this technology.
Last April, the Monegasque Communication Department announced that it had launched an air pollution assessment test inside the parking lot of a shopping center, as part of the innovation and quality of life projects promoted by the Department of Equipment, Environment and urban planning of the Principality.
Well, to do this, some theBreath® panels were installed as well.
… but also at home, at school and in many other environments.
And what about indoor environments? At home, it can be hung as if it were a painting, printing the image we prefer most on its front, or being used to cover sofas, chairs and armchairs.
Even at school, why not? From Piacenza to Novara, from Milan to Osimo (AN), more and more schools are deciding to install some panels made with theBreath® inside the classrooms, with the specific intention of making their environments healthier and less polluted, for the benefits of pupils and teachers.
Customized ad hoc and depicting images chosen by teachers (maps, geometrical figures etc), the panels hanging on the walls have dimensions similar to those of any other teaching material commonly adopted by schools.
The examples are not over here.
theBreath® can line the canopy of a stroller, can turn into a curtain in the window or be worn to characterize an item of clothing.. whether indoor or outdoor, there are so many application areas.
As many as any other fabric.
